EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST

KFI has an immediate opening for a full-time Employment Specialist to cover Northern Penobscot County (from Howland to Millinocket). This position is responsible for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) funded Job Development, including situational assessments, trial work opportunities and potentially other services/grant opportunities leading to successful employment outcomes for individuals served by KFI; Pre-Employment Transition Services (PETS), designed to assist students with disabilities to prepare to enter the world of work; and MaineCare waiver-funded Career Planning & Discovery. The Employment Specialist develops and maintains a rotating caseload and provides the maximum number of billable hours per month, leading to employment outcomes. He/she fosters cooperative working relationships with job seekers, students, parents and guardians, the local business community, VR Counselors, Community Case Managers and other KFI staff.

Responsibilities include:  Interviewing referrals for Job Development, Pre-Employment Transition Services, Career Planning & Discovery and potentially individuals currently being supported by KFI; involving the job seeker as a partner in the job search process; networking and contacting employers to develop competitive and customized job opportunities; promoting the development of natural supports on the job; maintaining communication with referral agents and KFI Support Coordinators; supervising job coaches; preparing required VR reports and Career Planning tools in a timely manner; participating in on-going training and keeping abreast of current best practices in customized employment.

Qualifications:   Candidates must possess both the Employment Specialist and Career Planning & Discovery credentials, or agree to participate in these certification trainings. Preference will be given to candidates with prior Employment Services experience, a past history of serving and supporting individuals with disabilities as well as success in a sales environment. Candidates must demonstrate initiative, ability to “think outside the box”, familiarity with the business communities of Lincoln and Millinocket, proficiency with computers and exemplary writing and interpersonal skills. Must have a valid Maine driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.

Hourly Wage:       Commensurate with experience and certifications.

Work Schedule:    40 hours/week – flexible schedule
